North Carolina Web Applications: Graphic Arts

Nearly all websites incorporate some form of graphics. Some, however, use graphics as a means of telling the story. Below you will see some examples of this technique.

Often a customer will have an image that needs some help. In the example below, the customer had three pictures, none of which were exactly what she wanted. In one, there was a person with her head turned to her friends. Another had some problems with arm placement. I took the best image and did some "Photo Shopping" literally.

I began by removing the background and placing it by itself. I also erased the shadows of the two arms that I would later replace.

Next, two of the girls whose arms were not in the best position, had them replaced from another picture.

You cannot of course, rotate the head in a picture. You can replace it with a properly positioned head in another. The last image will show you the final composition.

Now you can see the composition of the three images as if they were one. You may have to switch back and forth between the previous tab and this one to spot the last change.

Often a customer will want to portray a collection of images together to tell the visitor what to expect. This is also sometimes known as the "story board" approach. See if you can figure out the story.
